I use HD synthetic in all three holes, just to keep it simple.
It has worked just fine.
As far as the mess from changing the filter, just steal one of your ol' ladies flexable cutting boards, I think they're made by Rubbermaid.
I trim them to a "V" and slip it under the filter.
It's a piece of cake, all the oil just drains right into my pan.
No fuss or muss.

Anybody use Royal Purple oil? If so what and where?
Yes, 20w50 in the engine and primary and 75w140 in the tranny.

I use amsoil in all 3 but as some have said it's overkill in the primary but i think i can spare the change. I really think you could use just about any oil you want. You would be hard pressed to find anyone to claim a problem using any bike oil. Just go with what works for you. Price? convenience? smell? pretty color?

Mobil 1 - engine
Redline shockproof - tranny
Castrol - primary

K&N oil filter and use tin foil.

I also use the appropriate Petron additive for each hole. http://www.petronomics.com/

So what's the consensus? Even though an '07 calls for 38oz, is everyone just putting in a quart/32oz and not worrying about the other 6oz?
I use 38 oz., which is the spec for the bike, so why would you want to skimp and use less? It might not hurt, but just open two cans, use one completely and keep the second to get the 6 oz. for the next four changes with a bit left over. Get a small measuring cup for measuring.

As for type of oil, take your pick: Cheap fossil engine oil, expensive synthetic engine oil, ATF, MTL, or gear oil. No reports yet on vegetable oil, so you're on your own there. The primary simply doesn't benefit from a high-tech synthetic oil like the engine and tranny do. My opinion is that anything over $3/qt. is overkill. My choice is $1.24/qt. 10w40.
