Is your heel shifter hitting the floorboard, it does take more movement to get 2nd than the other gears. Try adjusting the height of the heel lever.

I had that happen to my 07 Ultra, it went from 2nd to netreal. the cause was a small wrench had fallen down in the linkage. The mechanic who lost the wrench had the same initials as mine

I have just the opposite problem, I can't ever find neutral, because the détente is so soft I can't feel it. The only way I know I've got it is to look at the idiot light.

I just had mine out 30 degrees, shifted fine. Lose the heel shifter before it catches on your chaps or pant-leg and you go down at a light.

Make sure all the shift linkage is tight and has no play. Then adjust your clutch linkage and check your primary even if has an automatic adjuster (remember it is a brainless, mechanical entity). You can also try using a heavier tranny fluid to slow the gears down a little quicker to get you past the "false neutral" you are experiencing. Lastly check your linkage for clearance through full range of motion.

have the same problem between 1st and 2nd after I raised my floorboards up 1 notch looked at my heel shifter and it is slightly bent (probably from stomping as I go thru the gears).
