I started with just Rush mufflers and they sounded great, and performed really good. But after about 5000 miles I noticed that mufflers were turning a little goldish color at the inlets. Installed sert & Ness B/S, bike runs better and cooler now. Should have done that from the git go![:-] Then I ordered an installed the custom baffles for the mufflers from Fuel Motto. What a nice combination, seems to have more power and not as loud as before. Don't know if I'll ever take itfor adyno tune or not, seems to run pretty good right now.
I have been a lurker for awhile now, just recently registered. I must comment on this post. My newest addition to the stable is an '08 Streetglide. I put Rinehart slipons on her at 250 miles. Nothing else. Runs as good if not a tad better than before. I also had a 2000 Ultra Classic with rush slipons and it ran like crap! Was told a fuel management system would fix all the problems. I didn't like the pipes that well so I sold them to a bud with Road King Police bike. He installed them on his bike and they popped onhis biketoo. He replaced the muffler clamps and all probs went away. Go Figure. Have several friends with newer fuel injected bikes all with slipons and nothing else. Only 1 of those (an EGlide Standard) ever heated up. Just my opinion from someone telling you what I know not what I've read. Good luck with the pipes. Going to a rally will let you hear every pipe out there! Hearing them on a bike with the same size engine as yours will let you know what your gonna get.
Another vote for SE slipons. Combined them with a Stage 1 download and SE/AC. Later added a PCIII. I like the sound just fine--not too loud, but a nice growl on accel. All this talk is fine, but you need to hear the different pipes so that you can decide.
Don't do the slip on's. You got a new bike and want to tinker with it, so do it right. Put true dual's on it, Rineharts are a great choice and will sound great. Put on a screaming eagle air box and do the race tuner. YOUR DONE!!!
Yes you will spend more money, but I promise you and the bike will be very, very HAPPY.
My Bro got the 08 SE slipons with the Black and chrome tips. SE AC and the the stage 1 download. He has a deep sound now and no decel popping and is very happy all for $730.00.
the dealer told him he had to do the download and the AC.
My dealer said the same thing but said you should add the SERT but you don't have to.
I highly recommend the Nightrider O2 IED's for $69 a pair. Best/Least money I ever spent to improve the Bike. Not only does it run better/smoother, but the engine runs quite a bit cooler.
Check out this thread (quite long now) of owners who are 100% positive about adding the nightrider IED's. Don't take my word, see what your fellow Riders have to say. PS. I'm just another owner up here who stumbled on these and since I already spent a Gazillion dollars trying to make my bike run better and mostly cooler I figured what the heck is $69 at this point. Best money I ever spent.
My experience is that you do not need to do anything with just slipons, but if you add a/c and cpu upgrade, your bike will run cooler and this will add longer life. Not to mention the heat while sitting in traffic will no longer roast your buns.
I added nightriders IED's and saw my bike go from temps in the mid 300's down to temps in the200's. I checked my temps by using an infrared thermometer and shooting the laser just to the left of the spark plugs. My results were duplicated by many who have since tried them.
my 07 runs to hot and lean and pings with stock pipes cant imagine giving it more airflow and not more fuel.adding the pc111 air intake and leavin the stock pipes on
