I just came from a 2007 Dyna Superglide to a 2008 Streetglide so I have a good idea of the difference between the two bikes. Yes, at idle, the Streetglide vibrates more than the Dyna but is smoother as soon as you get above idle. There is no comparison in the ride. The SG feels like riding on a sofa. The fairing blocks almost all the wind so your hands don't get cold (I like that part the most as I ride year round and my hands would freeze on the Dyna). The two bikes handle the same, almost, and the additional weight (100 pounds plus) isn't noticeable. Power is about the same (touring models put out a little more HP as the exhaust is more efficient). Hard bags are great. Radio is nice. Bembo ABS brakes are great! Really no compairison between the two series (thus twice the price!). The biggest difference, I notice, is that the Superglide always "wanted" to go faster. The engine was never "relaxed". "Speed up and shift" was the mantra. The Streetglide is very "happy" cruising along at 40-50 mph on country roads just "putting" along. I think a lot of that has to do with the IDS. It's the biggest improvement Harley has made in awhile. Takes all the surging and noise out of the drive system. We just installed the IDS kit in my buddies 07 RK and he's in love with it. His exact words were, "You wouldn't believe the difference!".

Been on both. Had a 07 Dyna Wide Glide, and a 07 Dyna street Bob. Went to the dealer and sit on the street glide, nice sittin bike. Sit on the Standard, Hmmm, nicer seat, crash bars for the saddle bags on the standard, like the running lights.
I like a bike with a fairing over a windshield. Had both, the fairing is much nicer on the bike. Go rent a couple and you will understand.
When you leave the dyna which is a great bike, and go to a touring bike you don't eat bugs any more either. With the fairing yer gonna notise yer not as tired from fighting the wind.
Got the standard. Don't need the radio, and all the chrome. Its all about how much money you want to spend also.
Don't see where its that much harder to maneuver the standard than the wide glide, takes the curves about the same also.
Both the Wide Glide and the standard has 5.1 ground clearance.

Watch yer tach on the bagger, keep yer rmp's up over 2000 rpm. The bagger rides much smoother too if you don't lug the motor.

i have a rkc i say the only thing i would do is change the seat if you ride 2up for long rides, the old lady says it bothers her and shes only 115 pounds, so shes not a wide body...so of course i am keeping the stock seat so she doesnt get to comfortable...but other then that, its a bike that i could ride for a long time without a break...nice ride and smooth, and you can strip it down real quick to just cruise around. i do live in a cold area and i think i am going to get the chrome lowers to deflect the wind, and i might change the wind shield because i still get some air...but then again thats when i ride when its in the 30,s..i was going to get the street glide, but i dont think i was ready for the full fairing although a radio would be nice....either bike would be a good choice. good luck, and dont rush it...ride them both.

I've never had a Dyna But I have an FXR and when I got my FLHR I loved the wndshield and the floorboards. I put a tall boy (Electra Glide style) seat on the RK along with some EG bars and the bike was very comfortable. I like the RK standard bags because after a while the leather covered bags on the Classic seem to look weathered. When I got my Electra Glide Classic I noticed that the fairing provides much better hand protection from the cold than the RK windshield. I also like the radio. The FLHX is a nice bike but I prefer the FLHTC seat and in my view it is a better value because it comes with a tour pak for about the same price as the FLHX without one. I made mine detachable as I like the lighter feel around town without the tour pak but on a trip I love the extra storage. Also, if you ride much two up you will have to add a back rest or tour pak for the passengers comfort on the FLHX. Just my impressions. So much is personal taste.

I always loved the look of theroad king with the hard bags, but back in 06 when the SG came out inmy mind I said I have to have onebecause of the fairing, the radio, the full gauges. I know once I went into a touring bike I asked my self "Why didn't I do this earlier in my riding life. You will be very happy with either choice. Good Luck!!

I went by the dealer for a quick sit this afternoon and I think I would lean more towards the street glide. One of the guys said he would let me take their demo out for an hour no problem so I might do that on a slow day when the weather is nice. I am probably upside down about 4k b/w what I owe and what I could trade for which is why I am holding off for a bit. I thought about selling personally, but I have an issue with someone wanting to "test ride" the bike. What if they dropped it? I guess I could always get a down payment enough to cover the deductable for insurance.

Well I came from a Street Bob last year and it's like going from riding a super model to a fat chick.....No that does not sound right,(maybe it's the other way around) but there is no comparison when it comes to the two..........I don't think you will regret it at all
