Default Popping through exhaust cause found?

Hey all,

As some of you know I've been experiencing alot of popping through the exhaust on deceleration. Well, I think I found out why. Some of you suggested an air leak so I started the scoot and started spraying carb cleaner around the throttle body and on the front cylinder where it bolts up it damn near stalled when I spryed it there but not at the rear cylinder. So, I am pretty sure I have a leak at the front cylinder/manifold mounting area. So, my next question is how in the hell do I get the throttle body off? It does not look easy, I am not looking forward to this. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

When you have the manual and some good tools
you can do it in 45 minutes.

Invest in a shop manual, it's worth it's weight in gas, it will walk you through the whole deal.

Try tightening the manifold first! Just snug them down and see if it makes a difference.

I've got a manual, do I really have to remove the tank or is there an easlier way?

Muckin around under the tank isn't the easier way. I have tried to tighten the intakes bolts that way and some money and a new temperature sensor and the time it took to replace it later....

That's on an 96 EFI, maybe not same, but it's your bike. Use the manual info or go fish.

I see you have a 2001 RK, which means it's a Magetti-Marelli. For that TB you will need a couple of different types of allenhead wrenches. The only way I was able to undo some of them was withball heads with long shafts. Get the ones for 3/8" drive ratchets, not the "T" or "L" handles. It has to be long enoughto go through that little arched passage way that sits in the front of the TB, and reach all the way to the allen headto do it.

Depending on how patient you are, you may be able to to it without removing the tank. Just undo the rear bolt, and the two front bolts, and wedge a small block of wood under the tank to lift it up and give you clearance. Be careful removing the injector wires as they tend to get brittle from heat and can break. Always use new gaskets when reinstalling. I coat the gaskets with warm soapy water. This makes them pliable and easier to shift around and when seating. If it's cold where you are, the gaskets could become harder to work with, and thus not seat properly.

Also look for exhaust leaks too. With the bike running, take your bic clicker fire starter and hold the flame up to the exhaust flanges, and EVERY joint working your way back. If you see the flame flicker and move, you have found leak.

Others may chime in with their tips, but that is what has worked for me.
