Default Sturgis 08--need advice

Making plans for Sturgis 08. Looking at staying at the Chip Campground, they have a camp site set up already for you when you arrive. Couple this with the concerts all week, looks like a good deal for $1K.

PM or post your thoughts or recommended alternatives--much appreciated!

yes, we will be doing a tent at the Chip. Does Creekside offer a tent set up for a fee? Or at least a mail ahead program?

August storms always come in SD, that means mud on the roads or trails at the chip. If no storms then lots of dust on your tent, belongings and MC. Great party's and scenery and concerts. Hot or wet its a riot. Guess it depends on what you go for, but it will rain.[:-]

If you can handle no concerts, having trees for shade, clean bathrooms, and being 72 miles south, centrally located to a lot of the sights... try any campground in Custer.

Bigpine campground is where we are staying. It's 270 bucks for FOUR people total. Thats with power and water hookups for a week. Tenting is even cheaper....

My reasoning is that I'll only shoot up to Sturgis like one two days at the most. We'll spend most of the time actually riding our bikes around to all the attractions.

Staying in Sturgis means traffic and wasted time trying to get through that mess everydayjust to get to anywhere cool... So, we are staying in Custer.

$1,000.00 for a week in a tent, in the mud, or covered with dust sounds like a lot of money.

We stay at the White House Resort Hotel in Keystone. During Rally week the price averages $125.00 per night. If you put two people in a room that is $62.50 per night each. No mud, no dust, no outhouse, no shared public shower, no noise all night long, has air conditioning, has soft bed, has balcony to watch the bikes go up and down Keystone Main Street, has a bike wash station providing towelsand hose. This seems to me to be a much better deal.

We stayed in Rapid City at a place called The Ranch House... it was cheap as hell (and ghetto as hell), but better than camping for a week in my opinion. Just like lp, we only went into Sturgis twice and road all over SD for the rest of the time. Sounds like it would be fun to stay up there for a night or two, but unless you are a true party animal, I think it would get old... Sturgis is pretty insane! Regardless, you are going to have an incredibly good time. If you want the contact info for the Ranch House, PM me and I will track it down for you.

I stayed there in 04 and it was a blast to party and camp, but i will tell you that if your going to ride and see the sights the chip is not the place to stay. It is on the other side of sturgis so you have to go through down town to get anywhere and that equals alot of sitting and buring up in traffic. I got so tired of doing that i just stayed at that camp ground and partied. This year i am staying down at custard state park in a cabin 700 bucks for the week.
