I want to paint the inner fairing on my 2007 Street Glide are there any ideas or has anyone taken any photos of this in a step by step procedure, I checked the manual and not to many pics. Pics are worth alot more than words but if no one has any pics I guess its back to the manual.
Are you wanting information of removing the inner fairing or about paint it? If removal can't help you I got an Ultra, but painting go to Color-Rite web site www.colorite.com or call Steve at the West Coast office(800-736-7980) to get paint, base, primer, and anything else you need. Steve is super to work with, he has it shipped out of the East Coast store if you are on the east coast and will try to help with any directions or question you got about painting it. Better price than Harley also. Got rattle-can ready to spray on the plastic or youcan get the paint. Good folks to deal with IMO.
Technically you could paint it while it's on, but you would have to do an expert job masking, and even then it probably wouldn't look as good painted off the bike. Kind of like painting the inside of your house without removing the trim and fixtures (IOW - looks like crap.)
I just did mine 2 months ago. As long as you have the manual its pretty easy. Once you get the batwing off its basically taking all the gauges and speakers out. then you pull the fairing cap and the upper comes out. I thought the manual was real informative and worked well. the only problem I had was reinstalling the ignition switch. once you pull it out try not to move the steering from the position that you pulled it out from. I had left mine and my room mate moved my bike and it took me an extra hour of playing with it to get it all lined back up. But don't let that discourage you its really NOT that difficult. If you can change your oil you can do this no problem.
The only other advise I can give you is to use a clear silicone to put the rubber things back on the edges of the fairing after its painted. If you have any other questions pm me
