My Ultra's radio is really out of sight. I can get AM-FM, 6 Weather channels, CB, and, with the automatic volume control, I can hear it easily at idle and at 70 MPH without any adjustment,,,but,,,Iride with it mainly turned off. The best music I can hear is from that 96 cube twin pounding out the R's. It is a shameHD couldn't make that superradio system an option, I'd have left it off. The stock exhaust system does a fine job providing me all the music I need when I am on a ride.
The fly-by-wire throttle isa little quirky at idle, and at start-ups,but the cruise is spot on. Never had a cruise hold the speed so accurately up hill and down. HD got it right. My Crown Vic, and Super Duty both have fly-by-wire throttles and they are quirky in them too. Especially in the super duty. It picks up the load from the clutch a little late and tends to die at start-ups unless youbump the throttle with your footprior to starting theclutch release to turn on theelectronics, then it picks up fine. I guess we have to get used to electronic throttles, but I like the old stainless steel cable system better. So far, no aftermarketers have provided a retro kit to convert back to cable.
I'd gladly trade my 6th gear for a slower low gear for starting up on hills. Wouldn't have to burn the clutch so much if there was a lower gear to start up the load. But, I guess they sell new clutch discs don't they?
The dual air shocks provide anoutstanding ride. I bumped my pressure up to 22 psi and it is all good!I highly recommend buyingthat $40 HD air pump. Makes it all so easy to adjust. That should be standard equipment.
I've said it before and will repeat, the best bargain the Harley Davidson Company sells is the service manual. GET IT!
I agree. I am enjoying my 08 Ultra also. The FBW is very responsive and I like the fact of no cables to worry about and changing grips now is a breeze. The 6th gear will come in handy when doing some long riding on the super slabs. I'm looking forward to another trip to Milwaukee this summer to HD's 105th celebration. Lots of HD folks enjoying their Milwaukee iron.
I never thought I would really care for the stereo system on a motorcycle either, I was actually more interested in the intercom so the wife and I could talk. When we are together we both wear helmets and listen to music (radio or MP3 CDs), but can talk when we want. When I'm alone, especially on shorter rides, I'm more like you and prefer to listen to music coming from the pipes.....I like louder music, so I put on the the Vance and Hines slip-ons.
Yes, I agree with what you are saying. I love my 08 Ultra as well. Stereo is really nice to have. I've only had one issue with the FBW throttle. While in Key West, I started the bike, but I didnt wait for the engine light to go out before I hit the starter button. The bike started but I couldnt rev the engine, I'd twist the throttle and nothing. The bike just sat there at idle. Funny thing too, while it was at idle, I couldnt adjust the volume on the stereo either. It was unresponsive to any of the controls. I shut the bike down, waited about 10 seconds, and fired it back up. All was back to normal but the check engine light stayed on for about 20 seconds after I started it. When to Ft. Meyer HD, they cleared out the codes and no problems since.
Absolutely love my Ultra. Best purchase I have ever made. Just wish the weatherwould cooperate a little more on the weekends here so I can do so serious mileage!
