Does anyone know if there is a differnce in sound or performance between the two SE Pro mufflers for touring bikes? #65115-98b costs more and needs an end cap. Since I like the slash cut "64903-99 looks like the better value if there is no or minor performance differences. I'm changing from the Touring mufflers #65259-00 before a spring dyno tune. I have the SE AC and 203 cams with a power commander.
Thanks in advance to all for sharing any experience on this.
My experience with the SE slip-ons was this. When I ordered my bike, I had the SE big bore kit, (203's and a/c) and SE slip-on's 980463-06 and billet end cap 65067-01 installed.
When I went to pick up the bike the exhaust note was not much different than stock. I had the dealer remove those SE slip-ons and put the stock ehaust back on and refund the cost. I used the refund to purchase a used Bassani for dirt cheap
The 2 piece are alot quieter then the 1 piece, but with that being said you can cruise at 80mph and still listen to the radio/passenger with the 1 piece.
Thank to all for the feedback. Bruce - the new XXX-06 slipons must be an equivalent to the old style touring ones I have. Very close to stock in sound and performance. I have heard the SE II's and they definitely are more volume than stock.
I had these mufflers on my bike and they certaily sound a lot better than stock. They sound nice and deep and don't get too terribly loud. I am however changing them in favor of the V&H Big Shot Duals. If you'd like send me a PM as I am intersted in selling them.
I have the 98B 's on my SG with slash cut tips, they are much louder than I expected. With a face shield on my helmet for the winter months the noise resonates in my helmet making it hard to hear the radio at higher speeds. When I lift the shield they are still loud but I can hear the tunes.
I have an 06 EG that has the SE air cleaner and the ECM download; however, I left the pipes stock until I make up my mind on pipes. Currently I have both good throttle response and torque so I believe I have a few months to decide before HD discontinues selling the SE brand. I was thinking very seriously about the 64903-99 slip ons (because I don't want to do the SERT unless I absolutely have to) but I don't want load pipes ...just throaty pipes. Can you folks that have them, tell me how much loader they are from stock? I live in a neighborhood where loud pipes won't work so your input is appreciated.
