Well i just got done changing my intake manifold gaskets because I had alot of popping through the exhaust on deceleration. I think this might have been an issue, check out the picture! I'll ride it to work in the morning and hopefully I will see and hear a BIG difference, what do you think?
Everyone out there is checking your motor mounts every 5000, right! Loose motor mounts cause all kinds of gremlins and will actually cause your speedo to get warning lights on. Have found a loose mount on mine and all of my friends. One had the front motor mount bolt hanging by just a few threads on the nut. NOT, saying that's your problem but, the motor will shake alot of components loose if not torqued down to spec.
I had a problem with decel popping and backfire. Found the rear cylinder exhaust manifold loose. One nut gone and the other barely hanging on. Replaced the missing nut and tightened them both back up. Decel popping and backfire gone!
If the intake gaskets didn't fix it, check your exhaust.
Well, my scoot still pops on deceleration, DAMN! It doesn't pop as bad but still pops, now what? I checked my exhaust gaskets but they seem fine. Hmmm..
I am a service writer trained by Harley Davidson to diagnose and trouble shoot your problem and give you the proper answer to service questions.
It's normal, they all do that.
Just kidding.
With the mods you havemade wouldn'tyou expect it rumble and popa little? Is it something that juststarted or is it an ongoing problem? How bad is it? Any vehicle I have ever driven or ridden with a standard transmission has some decel popwhen you are at the top end of a lower gear and let all the way off the gas. Put a cam and pipes on it, it's even more noticeable.
I think that the intake gaskets got a little hot looks melted it would make sense that it would cause poping also high idle, realy leans the bike out when they leak making it hot and gaskets to look like that. Should be a whole diffrent bike now.
I know I am kinda new to this.... some years, but no ASE certification andnot decadeslike a lot of the guys/gals on this board, but I can't think of one bike (especially when a stage 1 or more mods have been done which is almost everyone) that doesn't have some kinda pop when in lower gears mid RPMs and you completely close the throttle. We have a lot of twisties here in AR, and every bike I have ever followed through the foothills or twistieshas that gurgle and occasional pop when closing the throttle for a tight corner. (most speeds are in the 30-50mph ish...)
Is your bike doing more than this? Is it something that is really loud? (My rineharts have some pop on decel, but it isn't that much louder comparitively when on the bike) Is this problem potentially burning the tail pipe tips?
