i dont have the stage 1 ecu, but do have a pc3...i looked at the 2 maps for my bike, one with and one without the stage 1 ecu...i looked at the #s on both and to maybe get better gas milage i was thinking of downloading the stage 1 map, figuring it wouldn't richen up the bike as much...i guss i;m assuming that the HD downloaded stage 1 ecu "map" already richens it up

You are correct, the stage 1 download is not needed to run a PCIII. BUT I had the Stage 1 done on my bike when I changed to the Stage 1 A/C and added the WP pipes. I later added the PCIII. The point I am making is, if my PCIII fails on the road I will still be running richer than stock. Running stock ECM and Stage 1 A/C and aftermarket pipes would cause you to be running way to lean. Which can do damage if ridden to many miles that way. Hope I did not confuse things.

Ride Safe,

Mike

no the stock makes it lean, the pc lll richens it up. get in touch with jamie at fuelmoto.com or you might them to map your pc for what mods you have at the moment.

I got that part thanks...I guess my q is, if i run a stock ecm with a stage 1 pc3 map, will it be rich enough?..I know i could just get a dyno but i'm being cheap...using the stage 1 pc3 map I'm trying to lean it a little (not too much) for better gas milage, and without having to mess around with tweaking the non stage 1 map

i could always try it and see what happens...lol

The HD Stage 1 download is a waste of money unless you don't ever plan on adding an EFI controller of some sort (PCIII, SERT, etc.). It is designed to configure the A/F to work with aftermarket exhaust and AC and still maintain EPA compliance. Adding the PCIII will not make it run richer with or without Stage 1 unless you program it to do so. It intercepts the signals from the ECM and adds or subtracts fuel and ignition advance as programmed by the tuner or owner. Tweaking for mileage is easy if you know how to recognize the warning signs that you've gone too far. Check this thread and scroll down to my long-winded blurb with the map attachment:

https://www.hdforums.com/m_2893742/tm.htm

The best thing for you to do, IMO, is to leave the ECM stock and add the PCIII with a map appropriate for your hardware. If you purchased it from Fuel Moto it should already be preloaded with a map for your hardware. If not, try one from the PC site, although I'm not sold on the accuracy of those.
