I just removed and replaced tank after paint....you say you didn't disconnect any wire...you had to!, just under the console there is a plastic 2-wire connnecter that plugs into a stationary I beleive female connecter....I would check there, at least see if you have juice to that point. These fuel pump assemblys can be very fragile...hope you didn't manhandle it while removing or installing. Good Luck....let us know how it works out.
the top canopy comes off and tank unbolts without disconnecting any wires, there areno wires underneath the tank on a 2003 flht, I wish I would have disconnected the wires . the 3 pin plug looks ok and all the fuses do too, not sure how to check the fuel pump or the relay
damn huskers I didn't think of that!!! thanks for the help but I was hoping for somebody to reply that knows how to test the fuel pump out of the bike and then I could try replacing it if that proves messed up
The tank was painted? Maybe you now have a bad ground if there is paint where there was a clean spot before? I am guessing here, but can't imagine what else might have happened.
IF YOU FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS TO TAKE THE TANK OFF....YOU WOULD HAVE PULLED THE....... FUEL PUMP FUSE.......WHICH IS UNDER THE OTHER SIDE COVER IN A SMALL FUSE BLOCK UNDER THE ecm.
The fuel pump fuse is in the right side cover and not in the regular fuse block under the left cover.......!!!!!!!!!!
I pulled that fuse to purge the system per manual and then put it back in, touched the batterywires directly to fuel pump and it works...so don't know what next?
Huskers 11 instaed of listining to morons with stupid comments here is what I did I ran wires from the fuel pump to the battery orange positive black negative it worked, then I tried running the wires from battery tothe 3 spade plug on top of console and pump didnt work, purchased new $30plug and bike fired up, between a $75 tow and stealer raping me saying I fried ecm or pump maybe both I saved at least $500 and learned something new.thanks to the people that tried helping with useful suggestions. and the others neeed to get a life.
