Default Battery and Electircal question

I got a couple of really basic, and probably dumb questions that I hope someone can answer. First off I have a 2003 Road King, Carbed, that needs a new battery. The original one is the one Im replacing and have never used a tender and don't plan on it. Is the stock oem battery gel? Is it worth the extra $$ to buy another one? This is over 5 years old and Im impressed at that alone.

Also, when removing the battery, there is a "female" plug that is attached ahead of the battery. What is this for?

Thanks

GO TO SEARS.. BUY A DIEHARD .. VERY GOOD BATTERY.. BETTER THAN A STOCK HD BATTERY.. AND WHILE UR THERE BUY A SEARS BATTERY TENDER FOR ABOUT $25.

The HD batteries are gel and are excellent batteries and worth the money IMO. Yuasa also makes a great battery. The plug you are looking at is probably a connector for plugging in the likes of a battery tender.

Thanks a ton for this. I was hoping the plug was for assy's. I want to install a lighter/plug and thought life would be easier if a simple plug in was all that was needed.

Thansk again,

It is the acc. plug if it is a female plug. The battery tender plug is a small rubber covered plug with 1 male and 1 female connection.

Is this something that is factory installed? Here's another dumb question....can I buy the male end and supply it to assy's I want power to? Is is hooked into the ignition or power always on?

As for the plug, a service manual would really help you; buy one!
As for it being for a battery tender, unless someone added it it's not likely
The accessory plug is on right side in front of the battery but not connected to the battery.

HD does NOT make their own battery, neither does SEARS.
Yuasa makes the batteries for a lot of aftermarket suppliers and OEMS
so go from there.
But buy a DAMN manual and read it and look the stuff up.
You'd be surprised at what you could learn and how smart you could become!
