I've got the short tinted one that comes on the CVO Road King. I bought it used for about $150. It looks great and is high enough (9" above headlight, I think) to keep the wind off of my chest. I can ride all day at highway speeds without feeling beat up at the end of the ride.
This is the shortest one HD offers. I like it on the bike but I get quite a bit of buffeting. I bought a larger one 4inches higher that I'm going to use to see if it eliminates that problem. Aframe 2
Is there a short chrome visor with a very short "windshield" available too? I know not much wind resistance, but I thought I saw one on a RK and thought it looked cool...
i have a road king custom, comes with the chrome visor. without a windshield, the visor does a fantastic job of directing wind right into your face and chest! shortly after buying the bike, i put the hd windshield on it (the short version, 4 inch lower than stock, i'm only 5'4") and it does a great job. like skykings, it is about 9 inches above the headlight. the only time that i have any problem with helmet buffeting is if i'm doing over 90mph, and since i don't do that very often i'm fine with it. one time, i took off and got up to 70mph before realizing that i had forgotten to fasten the strap on my helmet. pulled over and hooked her up.
since i put the windshield on, i rarely ride without it so i took the chrome deflector off, it just interfered with the windshield bag anyway.
I have the 17" Clearview, lightly tinted and with the recurve. That is 17" above the headlight cutout. This is on an 07 FLHRS. I just got it so only have about 500 miles with it but it feels fine and looks good. Wish it was a little wider though. I am 5'11" and look over the top by about six inches, I think.
I use a Clear View that's 17" tall with recurve. I works perfect everything goes over your head.
Anything less than this you might as well get ready to eat bugs, rocks, sand, spit, cigerettes, drink cups, rain, and any other disgusting thing you can think of.
I like eating rocks, sand, spit, and whatever else comes my way! That is why I am looking for a shorty type shield to put on when I take the full-size stock windshield off!
