The proper way to get on a bike is from the left side (kickstand side). This is taught in every basic rider course and instruction manual out there.

^ Yeah but them instruction manuels don't have two bad knees and two ruputured disc in lower back neither!
Either side really but prefer high side, like my butt to hit seat about same time as foot hits ground. Seems to be less stress on the stressed parts!
High side only! Always have, always will. Never been able to balance on my left long enough to lift my right that high. No problem balancing on my right to swing my left over.
