Default Ok, how screwed am I?

Just finished doing a little work on the scoot. Long story short, last thing I did was change grips. I put the little 5/32 piece of cardboard in the brake lever like the manual said, but low and behold when i wasfinished the brake light didnt work. Front brake or back brake,it actually looks like the brake light is stuckON.

So nowwhat? Anyone know how hard this will be to fix, or if I can fix it at all? Any ideas??

I believe you are going to have to replace the front brake light switch. This happened to me on a 96 RK. The part comes with a good set of instructions and all the things you need to replace it.

Remove your brake lever from the controls and make sure the switch isnt damaged.I never use the cardboard,i just pull the lever back as i install it.The switch is pushed in when lever is released to turn light off. When lever is pulled away from switch light turns on.Sounds like its not lined up right, or pinched that is why brk light is always on.

Just had a similar problem with my bike. Turned out the little switch under the brake lever was misaligned sothe brake lights werealways on but only when the was and shaking because the switch was actually loose.

I believe the manual says to hold the brake lever open when you put it back on..it's tough to do but the point is to not misalign or break that actuator. I believe it is called the stop light switch in the manual.

Be sure you did not damage the little tip of the switch....if that's OK you can probably fix it simply. You may have to rewiden the v-shaped wedge that hold it inplace (that's what mine needed).

Good luck.

Relax. You are not screwed at all. Just need to go back and make some adjustment as mentioned by previous posters.

The only time I used cardboard I broke the tip off of my brake switch. Just had to solder a new one in place. Not too bad, just a little time.

Why do you have to do that just to change grips......your not squeezing the lever or actuating the switch in anyway....just changed mine and I didn't touch the brake lever
