Since I don't have a radio on my poice bike, I velcroed the Ipod (in its case) to the left side of the fairing. I have a volume control cable that is connected to the Ipod and I velcro the control **** to the top of my left side switches. I then use a cable management strap (velcro) to tie up the cable so it doesn't flop and scratch the tank. I then connect to my helmet speakers in my full face helmet. I now have control over the volume without removing my hand from the bars, and I can still reach the Ipod if I need to pause or skip songs and not have to fish around in my jacket or tank bag. There is only 1 wire going to my helmet, and I can easily detach the Ipod from my dash when I stop for lunch or whatever.
I took a small u shaped bolt put it through my gas cap in the middle and the I POD is in a neoprene holder with belt clip just clip it on when getting gas comes off easy when I pod not on bike u bolt is chrome so looks ok.I think I spent $4.00 at hardware store for it.Works Great for me
Its not waterproof. A plastic bag and a rubber band take care of that. The display is protected by the windshield and is a sealed unit. The cable exits at the bottom through a grommet. The control **** is protected from the wind etc by its position. I use a bag for that too. Still operational with the bags in place. No worries on the iPod as it is in a protective plastic case secured inside the fairing itself. The iDrive was $25.00 including shipping on ebay. I tried a shuffle before tied to the bars and hooked through the Aux port. For me the iDrive is a cleaner set up with more options and capacity. 4G Nano with 1,000 songs.
I have a street glide bassani true duals screaming eagle 103 kit..bike is loud. i went to best buy bought a pda window suction cup holder. hack sawd the suction cup off. black zip tied it to my throttle side and it sits there perfect. I Was in a horrific accident 12/24/07 blide side by a ****ing moron making a left turn..bike was realy screwd ..not as screwed up as me but bad. ipod was still in holder and playing..gives easy acces to it at red light and even rollin. my 2 cents
I have seen them velcroed to the middle console on a SG gas tank (this is West Coast style.) I velcroed it to the blak part of the top of the fairing on my SG. You can barely see the velcro and it helps to remind me to take it off when I am parked.
