Ok, after 16,543 miles I have finally got tired of getting eye-balled by that freaking antenna. I took it off and threw it in the garbage Sunday after the latest detached retna episode.
OK, so now I am sitting here doing my best pirate imitation looking for a replacement. OK, maybe I should have done this step first, but you know how that goes.
Anybody out there know of a cheap replacement that is NOT eye level? Word has it any antenna from Autozone will work, but want to verify.
Just cut it down, That is the cheapest. I had taken mine down to around 18 inches. Or if you want to spend some money http://www.eglidegoodies.com/id109.html SD2-B18
I believe the 2008 models are shorter. Or, you can purchase/order one from your local HD dealer. I believe it's the same company that makes the speaker upgrade components. Or, you can go to NAPA.
J&M, a forum sponsor, offers a nice shorty antenna. You could also use an antenna mounted inside the fairing, such as Tune Trapper, etc. available at auto parts stores.
If yours screws in, pepboys or most auto parts chain stores sell shorties. Got mine for about 8 bucks and it works great. If yours uses the set-screw to hold, just cut original down.
