talked to derik at fuelpak today,I`ve got V&H bigshot duals K&N filter & fuelpak notice at idle at night headers glow light orange from heads to 02 sencer, derik says this is normal says his bike does the same thing and not to worry! have any of you noticed the same at night when at idle?thx ps says stock pipes do the same but we dont usally look at our stock pipes as close.
That's because Fuel Pak's don't alter the idle air-fuel ratio, only the off-idle air-fuel mix. (I got this from Derek- back when I had a FP.)
You could add a set of Nightrider IED'd for about $69 that will drop the closed-loop AFR (which includes idle) from 14.7:1 to 14.2:1. That should help considerably...
Yes, it is a sign of being lean. However, I had a '91 Suzuki 1400 Intruder that did the same thing, not to mention it was murderously hot in traffic on a summer day- every bit as hot as my '07 Electra Glide. It also had a bad "lean surge" at low rpm cruise speed. When I asked the dealer about these issues they said "It's because the EPA makes Suzuki jet the carbs so lean. Sorry, nothing we can do about it."
My redneck solution was to keep the choke on slightly all the time, which richened the mix just enough to make it bearable. (Don't laugh- it worked... )
