Had a really strange thing happen on Sunday. Went for a short ride with a freind of mine, we met up at my house. I started the bike in the garage, rolled it out and off we go. About half hour into our ride we stop for gas. I shut off the bike fill up and go to pull out my key with the gas company's debit fob attached, just then realize I took my car keys instead. Guess automatic habit from the past six months of winter.
Needless to say, can't start the bike. Pretty embarassing situation. My friend ended up giving me his bike to ride home and get the keys. Unfortunate for him by the time I got back he needed to get home. I did get to ride though.
Learned valuable lesson to make sure that have proper keys in my pocket, this is a strange incident but I guess is the only downer of the keyless ignition/security system on modern bikes.
Don't forget to take your keys!
you don't need your key fob to start the bike -- check out the owners manual set your 5 digit PIN (security code). learn the sequece with the -- get a pop up gas top and you're good. It is on page 114 of the owner's manual --- don't ask me how I know this

I set the 5 digit pin on my last bike and it worked great. An '05 FXD. However, I've tried to set the pin on my current bike, '07 RG, and I can not get the 5 blank spaces to come up on the odometer. I have read and reread the instructions and do not see what I am missing. I turn the switch to Ign and immediately hold in both turn signal buttons, but all I get is E-flashers. I've held them in for up to a minute and still nothing on the odometer but mileage. Did something change with the later year bikes? Am I missing something here? I have my fob on my person when doing this.

to get to the reset sequence, you first have to turn the ignition from off to on, then off, then back to on. then you depress both turn signals at the same time. if you need more info, i (or someone else) can hook you up later. i don't have my manual handy right now.

+1 Had to do this a few days ago, but that was just to pull out of the garage.
