saddleba mount mod
i know i've seen it there before and yes i tried the search but to no luck. does any one have some pictures of how they modified there mounts toget rid of the stock thumb pin screw thing and mount with bolts to make it harder for someone to remove the bags from the out side.
The spring clips that your pins roll on to when you put them through the bag holes will slide off of the main mount brackets if you spread them apart. You can then use smoth head cairage bolts or clevisstuds inserted into the bracket holes and the bag holes from the fender side. Then use fender washers/nut/wingnut locker or a cotter pin to secure from the inside of the bag. If you like, you can drill a hole in the cariage bolts to house a small padlock, but I just keep my bags locked.
Also, use copper pipe caps to act as shields around your bracket bolts. This helps to keep the would be theives from using a speed wrench to just drop the whole brackets off of your bike and walk away.
Both of these mods have been put in the DIY thread in this forum. Sorry,I can't remember the poster's name (started with an A. Arvid I think).
As for me, I use a combination of the stock pins in the front bracket because it's much tighter and harder to get to, andI use the cariage bolt method in the rear bracket of each bag.
You can see why I would want to do this.
