Hey, folks -- not a newbie, but not necessarily "technically advanced" either...
Just noticed that the inside of my headlight lens is really getting foggy and dirty. Which screw do I undo in order to take the lens off and clean it???
Yeah, I know that sounds simple, but I'm the one who cuts the blue wire when the red one would have been better...
There is usually one screw at the bottom of the light which when removed, allows you to take off the chrome ring.
This ring holds the lens on and from there you can remove the light bulb. Not all bikes are the same though.
I have just bought my Ultra and have not paid much attention to the headlight.....except to see that it too, is kind of cloudy.
It would be kind of hard to get something inside the lens
to clean it? I would upgrade the lens to a new one, if it were me.
I just cleaned mine last night as I installed a new PIAA Super White bulb. The foggy lens has been bugging me for months so I decided to see if I could clean it from the inside.
It's easy to remove the bulb and the reflector thing in the center.....I squirted some cleaning solvent into the opening and swished it all around....I drained it and then pushed a microfiber cloth into the headlight....I was able to twist it around to clean all the interior surfaces
It now looks like new.....super clean.....very easy

Yes....I was very bored last night
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I ENDED UP DOING! I stopped by the dealer, had him show me just what screws to take out, and how the headlight out of the housing. It was easy, and I did the same -- sprayed some cleaner inside the lens and housing, then crammed a microfiber cloth in there, cleaned it all up and put it back together. No extra screws, no stripped threads, and it all looks good. And, while at it, I upgraded to the brighter, whiter light as well. The only thing I'm not particularly fond of is the difference between the bright white of the headlight and the mellow white of the two spots... Maybe they get cleaned and changed next.
