I have freedom wings, a higher windshieldand the deflector that mounts between the forks and theyall help reduce the wind buffeting on my 2007 Street Glide. I haven't tried the roll bar mounted deflectors in either soft or hard shell but I have always wanted to try the chrome steel deflectors that mount one to each fork on the outside of each fork below thewindshield/fairing.The ones you see on RKs for example won't fit on the FLHX because the turn signal mounts are different.
I remember discussing this on the forum last year and someone wasgoing to try modifying the stock deflectors to see if they could come up with a template and someone else thought they heard that HD was going to come out with some to fit the SG.
Does anyone have any updates or solutions to share?
I was one of those that mentioned the option to fabricate these for the FLHX, but never did anything. You might consider fairing lowers, which I added a month or two ago and am very pleased. I don't see a downside to them, and with the adjustable vents don't anticipate removing them in summer. Still some air does get through between the Freedom Wings and lowers, and some sort of additional solution might be worth exploring, although I'm not at all dissatisfied with the status quo.
I think I have some old deflectors if anyone wants to play with them in an effort to make them fit an SG. I think it could be done by cutting a slit to fit around the turn-signal wiring, and perhaps reshaping the mounting plate to fit under the SG's chrome turn-signal mounting plate. My only request is that if you get it to fit, draw a template for us to go by should we decide to do it too. That said, I doubt if I'd do it now since adding the lowers.
Thanks for the response iclick. I am going to several swap meets soon and will try to pick up a reasonably priced set of fork mounts to play with. Am also attempting to fab something like an air damthat fastens to the roll bar and is adjustable. If I come up with anything that works and is cheap and not unattractive, I will post.
