Default HQ-113 Build ?

I am real close to making a decision on this build. I need to know from you guys that have done this, what do I need other than what is listed to make this a great reliable build? Some things have happened that will not require me to put the 10,000 miles on my new RG before I do any mods. I have not decided for sure as the old SG is running real strong with the minor mods done on it. Just trying to get a complete package togeather so I do not miss anything while trying to decide.

You will need to get some work done to the bottom end, there are a couple of differnet option here that range from $500 to $2500 depending on what you do. There is also a need for a new clutch like the Primo Pro which is another $500.

Darren is correct, you will have to pull the engine to have the cases bored. Might as well just send the whole lower end up to Darkhorse to have the wheels trued and pinned and Timken conversion. That will alleviate any fears of twisting the crank, and if you request, it will come back with the crank installed and cases buttoned up.

You will need an engine gasket set and be sure to purchase an new engine-transmission interface gasket as it does not come in the set. Might as well install that chrome inner primary that you know you will want.

Clutch - well you can go with a AIM 92VPC , most likely with the stock HD spring and it would handle it or you could go with the Primo which is a nice setup.

You have the new, larger TB for the FBW, I am not sure of the injector size so you might want to investigate that, should be running something in the 4.89gm/sec injectors to get it to fuel properly. As far as the AC, a Doherty is nice. The big sucker is ok but I have been hearing of quality issues of that unit lately here on the forum.

Another nice piece but not entirely necessary is the SE billet cam plate, just a little extra insurance. You can stay witht he chain drive cam setup, wont hurt a thing.

If I can help in any way, give me a call!

I think these guys have about got it covered.

You have a couple options for the crank. You can have Darkhorse fix yours up, true, balance & weld it, or you can go with a Jim's or S&S unit.

The stock cranks simply will not hold up to these builds. Theoretically, they are the right stroke (almost), but they are simply too weak and will not hold up in motor making 130 ~ 140 ft/lbs of torque.

Another "option" that Darkhorse offers is the Timken bearing conversion. WHile it is not nesessary, I did it just because I felt like it was cheap insurance since I already had such an investment.

If this is your 08,. your stock TB is great. Even the stock 07 TB will work very well, but it will leave some power unclaimed... Heck, I ran a stock 05 (44mm) TB on my 120 for the first several hundred miles & it was nutz!

Feel free to PM me. I'll also be gald to discuss any ??'s or ideas you may have over the phone.

Thanks guys. I was kind of afraid that would be my answer. Now for one more bit of education... At what point does the build require boring the cases, crank work, new clutch...? If I did not want to go that far on the build, what would you recomend?

Please do not feel that you are wasting your time with this post. I am going to use this info to guide me into my next venture. I am just not sure exactly how far I am willing to go. I want more than just cams but I am not sure I want to go into the cases and cranks.

Once again, thanks for any guidence that you are willing to give.

if you can swing it $$$ wise I would do the 113 or 120 -- I did the 103 and now want the 113/120; if not the 103 is not a bad option.

In addition to the motor kit you will need a clutch and spring, your crank will have to be inspected very carefully for run-out--it's probably good, and a couple of odd and end peices.

The end result will be that you will have to use the clutch to do wheelies and rolling burn-outs rather than just hitting the throttle and or course top end speed --- something that I have not tried on my 103 yet -- but 110 - 115 is not a problem still had a lot left. I paid about $3500 including labor for the entire thing.

If you are going to do HQs build use the guys (Phil, Dalton, Carl, Kevin) as consultants --- they have done more motor workthan I have had time at the shoe model palace

Monkish, the HQ 113" kit uses the HD Bigger Bore cylinders that are 4.060 diameter which require boring the cases. A 103" build would use your stock cylinders so the case would not be bored.

You can also do the 107" using stock jugs bored to 3.93x". It may not be listed on the website, but you can request it. Both 103 & 107 are options that do not require case work.

You will need some clutch assistance regardless of what route you go. With the 103/107, you can use a S/E heavy spring and a VPC and be in good shape for less than 1/2 the price ofthe Rivera Pro Clutch.

Man you guys are good makes me want to build another one, well they just about coverd it. You can use a s.e.pro crank made by jims and get a local machine shop to do the cases to keep some of the cost down this is what I did case work $200 and crank $860ish though chicago deliver to the door. As faras not spliting the cases they coverd it above. All I can tell you is my 113" is worth every penny I spent. Great power, great mpg, and well behaved. The only other thing you may want is if you use a sert a pro tuner goes nicely with that set up, pulled my plugs today and they look perfect!
