Default Check Engine light

My check engine light comes on when I start the RK for about 10 seconds then goes out (just started this). It does it amost every time, but never comes on when I'm riding. The dealer said that it might be my plugs? The also said that if its not running wierd/bad not to sweat it.

Any thoughts?

There are procedures to activate the on-board self diagnostics, but I am still not exactly 100% sure how it works. There is also a tool called a Scanalizer that will pull codes.
Chances are you have a stored fault code.....now you have to retrieve it, and see what it means.

I would think if you took off the battery ground cable for a half hour or so, the ECM would clear all stored codes.....but if your particular fault is a "hard fault" when the ECM does its start-up systems check it will still flash the CEL.

Is there any way to clear codes without the battery disconnect?

The only way I know of clearing the ECM is by discounting the battery for 1/2 hour

pulling the correct fuse clears codes on older bikes, may be the same for newer ones.
fuses are under side cover.....caution if you have alarm..i do not know if alarm gets reset.
