Am I correct to assume that if a HD dealer did a "stage 1" upgrade... the mapping can be changed, through a downlosding to the original ECU,
without any additional electronic "boxes" added under the side cover??
I ask because I am the 2nd owner and the bike has VandH slip-ons and K&N AC already.... and I don't see any extra fuel management devices
under the side covers is the large black box with fins and attached w/2 screws the ECU?
thanks
Thanks for the info!
If I purchased a VandH fuelpax or a PC111 online, can I install and set up myself? seems like I would want to have that ability to re-map and be sure I am not to lean! and for future exaust/intake mods or changes
If a fuel management device is added does the original ECU have to be "re-flashed" back to stock??
The ECM can remain the way it is and if you buy a PCIII from Fuel Motto Jamie will map it to the mods you have done. You will need a laptop or a computer close by to tweak the maps. His maps are really close. I had mine Dynoed after the install and it didnt change things much. You do however need to set 0 throttle position, which is a snap.
A stage one modification actually is only two items.
From Harley only, not after market.
1. Screaming Eagle Air cleaner
2. A static download to the ECM (Static meaning it is a preprogrammed download,
The TECH can not modify it)
If this is done day bike is delivered the parts do not adversely impact the basic two
year warranty. and if only this is done it s considered street legal modification.
If mufflers are added during or after then it may not be street legal.
If the Stage one is done a day or two or week or months or years after original purchase
then it is no longer on the SWR and not covered by the base warranty.
This is mostly from HD's P&A catalog.
I believe that if your dealer does a Stage 1 after you take delivery, it is still going to be under warranty. As many times as they do this, I feel that if your warranty is going to be affected, they would make you sign off on a release that states that fact.
If you do it yourself, that may be a different story.
