I've done the search and have found some info about fuel pump noises at startup - but I was wondering how common it is to here a constantwhine/whistle (slight) from the pump during operation (riding). - 08 FLHR
not very common.
Usually indicates a small hole has appeared in the internal fuel line.
Would suggest you have it looked at.
Most all electronic fuel injections are designed so pumps only runs a few seconds at
startup to pressure system so the injectors will squirt fuel when activated.
Then the ECM turns pump off. When pressure drops again pump comes on again,
but now that the engine is running you normally can't hear it. Except when you have a defect in the hose.
Now the pump is continually trying to pressurize the fuel system.
I believe he'd also hear the whine when the engine isn't running if it's got a leak/hole in the internal gas tank line. I'd still have it checked - fuel pump noise shouldn't be an issue with the engine running.
