Default 1987 FLHT/S

Looking at getting an 87 FLHT or HS. Is there anything I should be weary of? Both bikes have about 20K on the clock. Both are in great shape and appear to be very well maintained. Just want to know if I am getting into something that could potentially be a real headache. Any insight would be great.

Can you include the price? We can tell you if it is good or bad. Most people will tell you the EVOs are great bikes. IMO the evos are the best buys now of any used HD. They can really be had cheap and you can ride them forever.

The HT is 8500 and has approx. 9K in extras.
The HS is 9000 and also has a lot of extras.
Both places said they were flexible on the prices. I am leaning more toward the HT because of the fairing and more extras.

Used to have an 1992 FLHS. My wife liked it the best out of all my bikes, it was my second favorite. She said it was more comfortable than any other bike I ever owned. I am riding my favorite bike, a 2003 FLHTCI. I don't ever see me getting rid of it, until it is just plain worn out.

The only thing there is to be concerned with on an EVO motor are the base gaskets. Everyone I have ever seen leak. When I sold my 1992 FLHS with 33,000 miles on it, I think mine were on borrowed time, as most I had seen were replacing them far sooner than that.

If the cam bearing has not been changed to a Torrington make sure that you get that done. Some EVO's have base gasket leaks and some don't. My '95 Roadking had 80,000 miles on it and didn't.

NADA lists an FLHT at 7,100 in excellent shape and an FLHS at 6,350 in excellent shape.

For the 9,000 you are talking, you should be able to get a newer EVORoadking which is the qualivant to the S or a newer FLHT. I would get the price down at least1,500 to 2,000before I would think about this deal. There are just too many used bikes out there right now to be paying premium for a 20 year old machine.
