I use a Garmin GPS60CSX. It is water proof and shockproof. It is a handheld when not using optional mounts and works on Batteries. I have a mount on my RKC, and on my bicycle, also a dash mount for my car and another for my truck.I also carry it in the woods for hunting season, and in the boat when fishing. It uses the standard North America road maps as other units, but will also accept topographical maps.Everyone has their preferance, but this unit is bullet proof, accurate and so universal it serves all my needs.

Just finished a 2,000+ mile trip to N.C.with a cheap Garmin nuvi 200 mounted with a ram mount. No problems yet. On the trip back we had to pass through that severe front that came through the area last week. I just put a zip lock bag over the unit and did not have any problems with the rain. So far it's worked fine, just have to see how it works long run. What I really like about it besides price is that it is very small and thin, that way when we leave the bike, I can just take it off and slip it into my pocket.

best by far out of the 8 GPS units I have owned is the mio 520c They make a water proof version. BIGGEST advantages are text to speech on the street names, and almost unlimited VIA way points!

I use a Lowrance IWAY 500C. It works great in car or bike and is waterproof. Had it for a couple years and never had a problem.

Quest 2 here, m/c approved screen is smaller but very clear, picked this model due to able to plan routes on pc and download to gps (alot of the more inexpensive units you cant), water proof, and has built in battery (2710,2720's dont, external power only) garmin says battery life 20 hours (if you dont use backlight and have set on battery saver((shuts down reciever)). Has a pedestrian setting if you are hiking (can download topo maps onto unit). Accepts custom POI (points of interest), I loaded all the HD dealers. Found this to be a great all around unit if you want to have one for more than m/c use. Special m/c mount compatable with RAM mounts. Downside no internal speaker - cig liter plug has speaker for car, m/c mount has cable to plug into aux plug on radio, I believe you can adapt to plug into a headset(not 100% on headset). Hope this helps

Say what you will, we've had no problems with the Zumo 550 and we have a lot of miles and bad weather it has guided us through.. Mounting was easy. Buy cheap and get cheap.

Magellan Explorist XL on a RAM mount. No problems. Have this as I can use it for hiking, it's waterproof and shock resistant. I can load the Street Maps and also Topo 3D. 3" screen. Battery or cig power.

Garmin Streetpilot c330. Used it on the bike for three years now, no problem. If it rains and I need it, I put a ziplok bag over it.

See it here...

I have a Garmin Quest I.
Its waterproof and I've used it on my 2005 FXDI.
I now have a 2008 FHLTCU and I will relocate shortly.
Canadian Harleys have speedos in kilometers only so I use my quest to display MPH when riding in the US.

It does not use a hard disk but internal memory.
The memory is only sufficient for 2-4 states and maps must be loaded from a DVD.
The Quest II has all maps built-in.
The battery life is awesome so I dont need it wired to the bike and I recharge overnight

The audio comes from the unit that plugs in to a cigarette socket but without it does a good job with just a series of beeps (no nagging voice "Recalculating" when you decide to go your own way)

I got it from e-bay (refurb) and generally I've extremely pleased with it.
If money was no object I'd probably get a Zumo, but for the money I think this is great.

YMMV
