dbird ,,,,,,

I am very sorry for any miscommunication you may have had with our phone sales people in Tucson ,,,,,,

shipping costs, especially air shipping costs have been rising almost weekly as of late ,,, and UPS/Fed Ex Air are adding additional fuel surcharges to their bills to us, ON TOP OF the listed rate ,,,,

USPS priority mail is so unreliable that we would not even consider charging our customers extra for it, only to have the package NOT arrive on time ,,,,,

so you can imagine when a customer specifies 3-day air service, 2-day air service or even next day air service when placing their order ,,,, the bill is often a surprise ,,, then they often call our J&M sales people on the phone and blame them ,,,,, venting a little whatever ,,,,

and our people are human too ,,,, they would just as soon ignore someone with that kind of problem then put up with the venting ,,,,, although that is still no excuse for ignoring a customer’s issues ,,,,,

we offer free ground shipping to all of our customers when the order is $30 or more ,,,, BUTT when you want it faster than that, someone must pay the bill, cuz air shipping costs have just gone thru the ceiling with the price of jet-fuel ,,,,,

JMJOHN ,,,, john@jmcorp.com ,,,,,,,,

Personally, I use the term "ripped off" for instances when the product ordered is different from and inferior to what I ordered, or was charged a price higher than what was stated. Neither of these took place here. dbird paid list price--no rip-off in my book, and he doesn't specify the level of delivery service he required so it's impossible to say whether the charge is reasonable or not.

Also, dbird mentioned "priority mail" but JMJOHN says they don't use it. If dbird doesn't know what specific delivery upgrade he requested, it's pretty much impossible to day whether 20 bucks is reasonable or not. I do know that USPS charges 16.00+ for an overnite letter.

Before throwing a reputable vendor under the bus, have the facts right, give the vendor a chance to make things right if they were, in fact wrong, and if they don't, then complain on a public forum.

ORIGINAL: dbird

I feel like I have been ripped off on inflated shipping charges. Placed an order on 4-15-08 (2) shorty antennas weight about 1 lb.
Web site advised free shipping, but I needed then asap because we were leaving on a trip. I requested an upgrade to priority mail about a $6.50 charge I thought. J&M charged my card today 4-16-08 $79.98 plus $20.02 for the shipping this is a ripoff. I called J&M about the shipping, very rude & could care less. However this will be the lastdollar I spend with J&M.

I would like to post a follow up.

I have exchanged emails with John the owner of J&M Corp. The shipping has been adjusted to a reasonable rate and now waitingon the antennas, shipped today. I want to thank John again on this forum.

Come on.....take some responsibility.....priority mail is expensive but worth it if you really need it....the vendor shouldn't be slammed for your not asking enough questions

and you ended up the the best "shorty" antennas available for your trip....what's wrong with that?

IMHO

dbird: Glad it has been worked out to your satisfaction.

How about using the "edit" function and add something like: "Problem Solved."

It is expensive to ship anything today especially by air.

You should have asked what the charges would be, they will tell you what they are.
I don't think the cost was unreasonable in todays economy.

I have been doing business with J&M for years and found them to be better than most I deal with and their products are excellent, as well as their customer service.

They are in business to make money, and don't make money on freight.

They shipped your antennas the way you requested, You received your antennas when you wanted them. Why are they the bad guys??? It's your bad for not asking what the shipping charges were, why should they take a hit because of your screw up?

Default NOT TO MENTION THE FOLLOWING... SUCK IT UP AND PAY UP...

J&M Terms Of Sale
Two-Year Limited Warranty
J&M Corporation warrants each new product it manufactures to be free from defective materials and workmanship. J&M agrees to remedy any such defect or replace the unit (at our option), provided the unit is delivered to us, intact, with all transportation charges prepaid to our factory, for a period of two (2) years from date of sale to the original purchaser. The provisions of this warranty shall not apply to any unit which has been subjected to misuse, neglect, incorrect mechanical or electrical installation, unauthorized modifications, accidents, nor to units which have been repaired or altered outside of our factory.
Our Order Process
Select the items you want from our on-line store (or by phone or fax). Our sales staff will review your order to make sure everything will work together. You will be notified if we have any suggestions or spot any potential incompatibility.
In stock products usually ship within 36 hours. Some of our products (like helmets with integrated headsets) are assembled and tested in our factory before shipment. Lead times may be 1 to 3 days to accommodate our quality assurance procedures. In any case, your credit card will not be charged until your order has actually shipped.
Once your order has been shipped, you will be notified by email with final charges and an internal tracking number.
Shipping
All items include free, fully insured, shipping via UPS ground or U.S. Postal Service Parcel Post to the 48 contiguous United States.
If you choose any other method for shipping, (or live outside of the US, in Alaska, or Hawaii) we will add the FULL cost of shipping and insurance to your order. We will add any additional COD charges (from the carrier) to your order total. We do not charge for "handling", you pay only our costs for shipping. We may call you at your billing address for large orders to confirm that you actually placed the order -- as protection against fraud or theft.
If you encounter any shipping damage, we will assist you in filing claims with the shipper. The carrier assumes responsibility for the order once it leaves our factory.
Payment Options
All orders are subject to verification of payment. If we have any problems with your credit card, we will call or Email you before we can ship your order. We accept Visa, Master Card, Discover, and American Express. All prices are in U.S. Dollars. For orders outside the U.S., the buyer is responsible for customs, tariffs, VAT, and any other tax or fee levied by government agencies in the buyer's country.
Out of Stock Products
While we do our best to keep up with our dealers and retail customers, during peak riding season, we occasionally run out of our hottest selling products. We ask you how you wish to handle back orders if one of your products isn't in stock.
Returns
J&M will always replace defective merchandise or correct any errors in by J&M. However absolutely ALL returns must be authorized in advance. For refunds and exchange, the product must be unused, in its original packaging and be included in our current product line.
Defective products must be: pre-authorized; within the two (2) year warranty period; and shipped prepaid to our Tucson factory. The consumer must provide proof of purchase.

Ya know making the stock antenna's shorter is a very easy thing to do.Slide the rubber boot up and thenunscrew the set screw at the base of the antenna and pull the whip out of the base, cut it to the lenght that you want and stick it back in and tighten the set screw and you're done. It took me all of ten minutes to do both antenna's on my Ultra Classic.
