Higher Winshields

What's nice is tha they made the windshield a bit wider than stock - so it helps deflect the wind - especially when it's cold.
These guys were great - highly recommend them.
I'm hoping they're all good, but even the $42 was cheaper than the stock (and I still have the 2" taller stock, along with all the other crap I've replaced over the years - EBay?)
1- Thanks to all my customers on this board and all the kind words written. It makes my work worth the effort.
2- The quesion Im answering is about the material of my windshields ... This could be very long but I'll try to keep it short.
a- The Light "Smoke" Grey material is polycarbonate (PC) with the same chemical properties of GE's Lexan ( HDs OEM shields are Lexan) . Its made by Bayer Chemicals , the same folks that make Asprin. Its highly impact resistant and takes a serious blow to break it making it an excellent choice for a windshield. Even under serious impact, PC will crack but never shatter. The downside to PC is that in order to be durable and impact resistant, it has to be on the soft side to absorb the impact. It will scratch easier than other harder acrylics ( acrylics can be almost as hard as glass) but the scratches can easily be buffed out.
HDs OEM Clear shield is Lexan AR but which has a micron thick anti-abrasion coating to reduce scratching. HDs tinted shields are Lexan but without the AR coating. Lexan AR is an expensive material to use in manufacturing and I could make my shields from it but pricing advantage would be eliminated. I made the decision to use PC w/o the AR coating to provide a better value to my customers. The PC I use exceeds the DOT requirement for a motorcycle windshield.
b- The Dark "Sunglass" Grey material is a Dupont Poly-Resin that has close properties to Lexan but falls into the class of Impact Modified Acrylics (IMA). IMA's are used all over the plastics industry for signs, boat & aircraft windshields and other areas where wear & impact resistance is required. Its a very durable material and the grade I use exceeds the needed DOT requirements of a windshield.
3- I am the owner, designer, customer service guy and anything else needed to run Fast Aire except...I do not manufacture the shields myself. I have all my shields made by a local plastics engineering/manufacturing company. They picked the material for my needs...Some things are best left to the professionals.
4- If you have visited my web site or seen my Ebay ads, the bike in the picture is my personal ride. All shields are designed and tested by me on that bike. It doesn't get made untill I like it & nothing gets made that I personally have not tested or would not ride with. Its not how I do business.
I hope I have added some insight to Fast Aire and answered any concerns/questions anyone may have. If anyone has other questions you are welcomed to contact me directly or post here. I will answer all when I can.
Thanks
Jim
