Anyone have info on their experiences with rinehart slip-ons. Sound etc. Don't have the extra $300+ to go to true duals and not sure if I want to. Any help is appreciated.
Great product from a great company. It seems that popular products are always popular targets for people to rant against.
Sound is sweet and the finish is super. As far as power increase it depends on the bike, the more stock the less increase. Even more so for the true duals, I have them and love 'em. They jumped my power and upped my mileage.
On a stock bike (and stage 1), the true duals are a luxury not a necessity. If you are looking for sound, buy the Rineharts, V&H are great too and provide a mellower low rumble while the Rineharts are "snappier" sounding. If you want more power and a quieter muffler the Supertrapp SE Touring mufflers are proven power leaders. Either way, DO THE "Y-PIPE MODIFICATION" on your stock pipes. It's free and will gain you some power and improve the sound alittle.
I love the sound, but get ready to shell out an additional $100+ for some decent end-caps. The Rinehart black end-caps are notorious for fading and changing color due to defects in the paint. I experienced this first-hand just a couple months after I bought the pipes, and their customer service was difficult to deal with. That being said, I do love the sound.
Navitimer, how long ago did you get your reinharts? I got a set of slipons and have about 3500 miles on them and they are still as black as when I bought them. Maybe they fixed their problem.
I had their "Eagle Beaks" on my '06 FLHXI. Gave greatdeep mellow sound - not too loud. The end caps (aring between pipe andbeak-like tip on mine) did discolor to a purple after they had been repeatedly heated up. From what I've read, Rinehart has tried to correct that and will replace the ones that discolor. I spay painted mine with BBQflat black and scraped out the "Rinehart" logo with a toothpick. That never bothered me again and I'd buy that set-up againin a NY minuteif I decide to get another Touring HD.
For you fellow Rinehart guys, there is a way to adapt SE/HD or Kerker type end caps to the Rinehart mufflers. I've got turndowns on mine, they look awesome and they tone down the sound just right.
The "y-pipe modification" is pretty eas, you just have to take the stock systemapart. Remove the front pipe so you can see into the joint where the rear cylinder pipe joins the front system. If you look in there , you will see a piece of the rear pipe sticking downinto the main pipe. Take a die grinder in there and grind it smooth or close to smooth with the top of the tube. The rear pipes are not miter cut when they are welding into the main pipe at an angle so there is some of that pipe interferring with the flow.
There are dyno tests that will show these modified pipes will provide as much power as duals with most stock or close to stock bikes.
Contrary to considerable MoCo bashing, the stock system is actually a very well engineered exhaust for most applications. It provides as excellent balance of torque and horsepower. It actually behaves like a hybrid 2-1, with the left side acting as a "collector" with a slight release of over pressure gases. That's why the left side has less flow than the right. In fact if you look at stock mufflers, at least '07 on, youwill see that the mufflers are side specific. One being a flow through design and the other "plugged off". This allows for a gas expansion effect in the entire system. 2 stroker guys know the importance of an expansion chamber, same idea in a V twin 4 cycle motor.

Hi fishcop, I got mine in September '07 and was probably around 1,500 miles on them when they changed. Hopefully they have fixed the problem. They're pretty sharp looking end-caps, at least when they stay black. Unfortunately mine first went to a purple color followed by a bright copper color.

Ultra007, do you have any details you can share on this? I bought the slash caps from Eastern Performance that fit Rineharts, but would love to add a set of the HD fishtails. Any links or details are much appreciated!
