My dad was a bit **** retentive in his day for keeping his vehicles clean and shiny. When I was young, he taught me to place the wet towel over the bugs and let them soak a few minutes. His secret, or so he says, was to mix up a bucket of hot water with a few drops of Turtle Wax or similar car wash. Just a few drops, you don't want to be all sudsy. Soak the towel, wring it out enough to stop the dripping and put it over the bugs. He swears thecar washspeeds up the process. I've been doing it now for years on the windshields and tank front where the bugs splatter the most. The good part about the car wash is it won't strip wax like dish soap will. NOt sure the optimal waiting time, but I like to wait at least two beers ...... sometimes three or four if I'm going nowhere soon.

Interesting.....

Any one else use the Hydrogen Peroxide? does this eat the wax or finish in anyway?

I ask because I too am lazy....much rather ride than wash all day

I just drape some wet cloths over the bug splattered areas, then clean the rest of the bike. By the time I get back to the bug splat, it wipes right off. Works on my fairing, windshield and chrome fork legs.

Someone on here had posted a tip a while back that works great for me. I just take a soft towell and soak it down with hot water. Lay it on the windshield and fairing for a while and the bugs just about wipe right off.

Been doing this for years. It's an old trick and it works great.
Soak a towel, lay it on the windshield/fairing, let it sit 10-20 minutes, bugs fall off.

Same here, and then just use pledge while the fairing is still wet. spray the pledge and wipe till dry with soft cloth, will shine like new money. or just clean it and use mequiar's quick detailer. that works great too. And the bugs will come off easier the next time.

I think a lot depends on how long your bike sits from the ride that got it all splattered and the time it is cleaned. I clean bugs off immediately after getting home from a ride....the bike is still hot. I use hot water, go over the buggy surface lightly with the wet towel, then rinse the towel and go over again....don't have to rub at all the bugs just come right off....then I dry with a clean soft towel more like a dish towel or diaper. After clean and dry I spray a little quick detailer on the places I just cleaned and wipe dry again. It sounds like a lot,but only takes about 15 minutes....the key is putting some wax back on after cleaning....even the little bit of wax in a quick detailer will make it that much easier to clean off the bugs after the next ride.

+1 on the hydrogen peroxide. i spray it on the windshield, fairing, lowers, front fender then go get everything i need to wash the motorcycle. that few minutes letting it sit dissolves them right off and i can wash away the days residue
