Doing routine maintenance. I have heard that there are better synthetic oils out there than the Harley brand. Valvoline was mentioned. Could members let me know what they think?

After reading numerous posts on this debate I think I am going to switch to Mobil 1 15w 50 synthetic in the engine. I am using 20w 50 Amsoil now and think it is a good quality oil but Ilike the thought of if I need to add oil on a trip I can stop almost anywhere and pick up the Mobil 1. Some of the other oils are going to be bike shop specific. In the trans I use Mobil 1 75 90 syn gear lube and primary just plain old primary oil. Just my .02

Availability is a factor for me. It's 60 miles in any direction to a H-D dealer. Walmart is virtually everywhere here in the South. 15W50 Mobil 1 is everywhere, Mobil 1 75W90 gear oil is everywhere and i use synthetic ATF in the primary and it's everywhere. i use Wix filters that are easy to find and are rated higher than the Purolator that Harley uses. Amsoil is fine BUT you have to plan ahead. I don't think there is an oil on the market meeting government specs that would cause problems.

I'm using Mobil 1 20W50 V-Twin in engine and primary and Mobil 1 75/90 in the tranny and am very happy with the results.

Amsoil 20w50 in the engine, Amsoil 75/90 in the tranny and Syn 3 in the primary. Tried quite a few combinations over the years and this is what has worked best for me.
