A buddy of mine got hit by a school bus, when they fixed his bike they put in a new bulb, this thing is bright as hell (it's from Germany Bosch), it works well. My question is could it melt the plastic because it is so bright? Meaning it would be hotter in the headlight housing? Would it matter if the head light housing was an older one compared to a newer one? His bike is an 04 and mine is an 05, there is a difference in the lense on the front. His looks like it has tiny prisms and mine is clear with a plastic piece that looks like it goes over the bulb.
If anyone wants the numbers from the bulb so they can order one I will post it.On low beam it looks like my high beam, and then on high it is like day light. The way I look at it, brighter is better when it comes to being seen.
Soundslike stock bulb, wattage (brightness) wise -- 60/55. Shouldn't be any issue with heat. Confirms what some have said all along -- the limiting factor with HD headlamps is more the reflector/lense than the bulb. Any logo on that lense?
we've known for years that simply switching to a Sylvannia Silver Star bulb with stock wattage will increase the brightness of the headlamp.... I've heard and read good things about the ULTRA by Sylvannia.... but as this set hasn't worn out... I'm just waiting
When we ride together people are always flashing their lights thinking his are on high beam, as for the Sylvania Silver Star, I love them. I have them on my vehicles and on my Harley, this light I am talking about is much brighter. I will even go buy an 04' head light assembly if it means my bike will be as bright as his.
I've read somewhere, maybe here that the life of the Sylvania's is not very long. They are brighter but don't last, what kind of service are you all getting out of them?
I use the Sylvania Silverstar Ultra (9003)(HB2)(H4) on two of three bikes (one has HID). The Ultra makes a world of difference and not heat/melting issues. Two pack for $40 and look for rebates from the manuf or the store.
I have been running the PIAA 85/100 for years without any problems, in fact I have had the same 85/100 bulb intwo bikes, for about 60,000 miles. Very heavy duty made to stand rough service and vibration, and very bright. No electrical problems, no melted housings or wiring issues, just a very bright quality light.
