If your sticking to short rides I'd stay with what you got, but my question to you is if your got the ultra would you be more likely to go on longer rides? When I got back on a bike in 2000 I hadn't rode in over 20 years and I thought I'd be doing short rides, Now I've got an 06 Ultra and just love to get out on those long rides....

RE: To Ultra or not.....
I commute to work and back (15 miles direct - 25 if I want to enjoy the ride some more :-). I can toss it around as easy as my last bike which was 200 lbs lighter. I'm a helmet wearer, so it's nice having the tour pack to store mine and the wifes when parked. Side bags are great for the chaps and the jacket when I'm not wearing them. Rode home last week with the radio on - love the AVC on it - works better than the one in my F150. Can't wait for the first long ride - don't think I'l have any regrets.
found my 08 ultra to be a bit much for running around town but not a dealbreaker. There are moments when bagger works just fine aroundtown when the weather is right,,etc...Now for that long trip,,,,the ultra can't be beat. Plenty of power,,plenty of storage,,music and cb radio, the intercom should you feel the need to speak to a passenger,,steady at speed and can cruise all day at 90. and a bonus-with the driving lights on and the width of the bike,,cagers do actually see the big bike coming down the road!!!
enjoy the ride, any ride, and strive to be the best against the cagers!!
man you will love the dresser I went from a sporty to a dresser of my own recently and I am in love , I dont have a ultra but still the extra room and what not is well worth it look into a FlHR dad has one and its prob the best bike we have ever owned
A less expensive option and still get the ride experience everyone is talking about would be the entry level Electra Glide Standard. But, if you like options the best deal going is the Ultra. I am retired but even before I was, I had an Ultra. I rode it to work, to the store, riding with friends, riding with just my wife, in short, found all kinds of reasons to ride it.
Like I said in another thread, I like that I can ride it down to McDonalds and visit with friends, or on a 5000 mile trip, or anywhere in between. And I DO![8D]
