My 05 Ultra is starting a small spot on the front head where the black appears to be flaking off, leaving a whitish spot, Anyone else seen this happen? Any way to stop it? Is it under warranty? It's going to make the engine look like crap. The only other thing I know of is that it is happening in the flat area with the spark plug and head bolts so installing a headbolt bridge cover of some kind would hide it, I'm just afraid it will spread.
It will continue to get worse. Good luck getting the factory to fix it but it's worth a shot! If the factory won't fix it and it gets to where you just can't stand it anymore you can paint it, or better yet, get them powder coated. Powder coating will be the more expensive choice [initially] but if you want it done right, that's the way to go.
I take it you have an 05 Ultra.
So the heat issues with 07/08 dont affect you.
I wouldnt sweat it out. You can clean the area and use Hi-Temp spray like VHT. http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...864+115+400335
You can wait till or if you rebuild and have it powdercoated or even better, jet-hot coated (dont use a wanna be company on that). http://www.jet-hot.com/colorchart.html
But hey, it's gonna be a four year old bike this year. Not gonna get it warranty covered.
I would go with rocknrod's suggestion.......do a 95" kit and when you take the heads off, have them coated Problem solved and you have a better engine to boot
$45.00 fix. And you'll forget it's flaking until you go to swap plugs again.
And it gives you a reason to go to the dealership & grab a new t-shirt.
OR
You could trade it in on an 08, but they prolly won't give you a good trade-in price because the black is flaking off the motor...
Well I have the extended warranty so it would still be covered IF it was a covered item. Jumpman I can't decide if I like that finned bridge or this chrome one.
