Default premium gas issues

Has anyone tried a low octane (regular) or a mid octane gas in their Road king or any touring bike. I've been using the premium 92 octane but it is so expensive now I hate buying it. I'm wondering if there is any long term effects for using a low octane gas?

Not unless you consider pinging and damaging your engine a "long-term effect".....

Along with my Ultra, I have a Suzuki V-Strom that runs on regular. A few weekends ago I spent all day Saturday on my V-Strom, but Sunday afternoon the wife and I decided to take the Ultra out for a spin. I stopped to fill her up and without thinking filled the Ultra with regular. I made it about two miles down the road before she started running like crap and lots of pinging and I realized my mistake. Had to stop by the local Auto Zone and get some octane booster to settle it down. Half a tank later I filled it back up with premium . . . won't ever make that mistake again.

OK,why would anyone complain about an additional $1.00 to fill up the tank of their bike? Isn't that the difference between a fill up (6 gallons) and about a 15 cent per gallon difference in price?

Let's see now. A buck 50 per tank extra....... A couple of grand to throw in low compression pistons[sm=violin.gif] to run low octane crap. You should recoup the investment, lets say, the year 2030?

Thats what i said. its A BUCK 50. I won't even stop to pick up change on the ground. I am happy to pay the extra change for better gas. My gas card note is as big as a house note every month so i am not much help.

Preignition is where the fuel air mixture detonates by compression. Regular gas will do this in your bike because of H.D.'s higher compression ratio. Burn it long enough and may end up with holes in top of your pistons and maybe some valve damage. Price of gas--I hear ya.
