I didnt pay $50, but I had a passive "tune trapper" and it didnt work worth poop in my bike. I tried it sitting still in my garage and its still not very good. The stock setup is the shizzle IMO. I put one on my standard and cut it down to the size i wanted for looks. It works like a champ!

Bottom line....any "hidden" antenna WILL perform less well than a similar antenna that's exposed. Generally speaking, the higher it is, the better it will perform. To be sure, there's varying degrees of signal degradation - much depends on the area in which it'll be used. Here in the Texas Hill Country, it's VERY noticeable.

I'm using a hidden antenna from ebay and it works fine. I usually have my mp3 player plugged in but when listening to the radio it gets the job done.

Just tested the Tune Trapper VS. Stock antenna. The Tune Trapper is a WASTE OF MONEY. Got about 1/2 to 2/3 the number of stations the whip antenna got. If you stand near the tune trapper it works great. Just a little tough to do when your riding........

I use the powered hidden antenna you can buy at Pepboys for like 19 bucks.
There are more than a few of us that use it. I've ridden from Charleston to Daytona to Deals Gap etc and it works great. And without amplifying any noise..... just clean signal so far.

I just took off my short 12" rubber antenna off my RG and installed the Tune Trapper. I get all the same stations I used to get. It works well for the money IMHO....but a Whip is always gonna be the best if you don't care about looks.
