I recently saw a guy running what he said was a 200 rear tire on a stock Road King rim. It was definately fatter than stock and he claims to have made no other alterations to the bike's fender...
Anyone know for sure what the widest tire is that oyu can run on a stock FLH model?
I've heard people say a 160 will fit. I'm not positive though. I know a 180 wont even come clost to fitting. I've measured for a 180 and it wont tuck the fender or the belt on my bike.
Just remember that there is no standard for manufacturers to measure their tires by and I've seen a lot of production variances in tires over the years. 150mm from brand 'x' might be closer to a true 150mm, while brand 'y' has a 150mm tire that is closer to 160mm. You can't necessarily assume what the tire is stamp with is exactly what it will be, especially after mounting.
The link below says a 160 (04-08), but I agree with the above post...not all 160s are the same width. I've also seen 160 Metzs installed on the HogPro website...not sure if they did any modification to make them fit.

If I'm interpreting the chart correctly, you can fit a 160 series on the rear, but only with a wider rim (4.25" versus stock 3.00"). FWIW, I've heard of folks getting a 160 to fit on a stock rim; however I would be concerned about the bead fit. Don't quote me cause I'm certainly no expert on this, but I think 150 is the widest you can go on the stock rim and still have a good fit. Any corrections are appreciated (especially since I'm going to be doing a new rear tire soon, and would like to go as wide as possible while still keeping the stock rim). Thanks!
I have a 150 Metzler of the rear of my RK Custom. The belt guard wore a flat shiny area on the inside of the tire. Believe me nothing biger than a 150 will fit..it's tight.
I run a 150 dunlop, and had to cut a chunk out of my belt guard, if this guy told you he can fit a 200 on a stock touring bike, either he was an idiot, or he thought you were
What year bikes are all you guys talking about? 04-08 should fit a 160 on a 3.5" - 4.25" rim, hopefully...because I have an 08 SG and I'm planning on a 160 w/ a 160 rim.
