chromed/chrome plated inner primary ??
The cost of the chroming I was quoted is $165. I've already pressed the bearing out of it, the oil seal, case gasket and such are dirt cheap and I do all my own work, so there's no cost there. I was just curious as to how the chroming was holding up on folks' primaries from the ones that went that route as opposed to buying the HD one. Thanks for the replies.
I would just 'ask around' about the quality of work done by your local shops.
If they do quality work - there should be zero difference between the chrome inner from H-D and one that you have done yourself.
Chrome will only be as good as the plater that does it.
make sure you get someone good. Browns Plating does a
great job.
This is the question I posed one plating company:
"What is considered extreme heat? It does not get as hot as an exhaust but it does get a little warm. Thanks"
This is there not so promising response:
THERE IS NO CORRECT ANSWER I CAN GIVE YOU...JUST UNDERSTAND YOUR PLATING WILL EVENTUALLY FAIL NO MATTER WHAT COMPANY DOES YOUR PLATING NEEDS
ALL plating fails eventually...KEYWORD, eventually!
Road grime creates chips, pitting, road salt...yes, EVENTUALLY it'll fail.
I'm picking my chromed inner up when I pickup the rest of my paint job.
I had www.chromemasters.com do it.
$225
Check their site out.
They're the ONLY company that I know of that buffs the copper before dipping it into the chrome.
Give Daryll a call.
