Replaced Instrumentaion Fuse (15) and it blew immediately when the Master Power (key switch) was activated.
Replaced fuse, wiggled wires under fairing, did it again.
Ran out of 15 Amp fuses. Replaced with 25 Amp, did not blow, but still no Turn Signals, Brake Lights, Speedometer or Tach.
Nothing new added from ride to work till the fuse blew.
Removed HD Running Light Turn Signal/Brake Light Module, no change.
Running lights both in the front and rear come on when key is turned on. Turn Signal Indiciator Lights on dash flash twice, rather quickly about 5 seconds after the switch is turned.
Any suggestions on where to start looking.
Would bad speed sensor on top of transmission cause this type of issue?
Get that 25 amp fuse out of there if you don't want to burn up some wiring!
Have you done any work lately - like remove the switch housings???? If so, retrace the most recent things you've worked on and look for a pinched wire. (If you've had the switch housings off, it's very easy to pinch a wire when reinstalling.)
Doesn't necessarily need to be electrical work. If you worked on or had anything worked on it is possible that a wire gon nicked or pinced somewhere. For example, if you had the switch housings off ever, you could have a wire pinched between the housing and the handlebars. It would be possible for the insulation on the wire to not fail for several months - even being pinched in there. (Don't ask how I know.) Once the insulation fails and shorts against the bars, you will start blowing fuses. I did that very thing on my superglide a couple years ago, and the problem did not show up until a couple weeks after I put on the new switch housings. Have you had the fairing off lately? I've learned to always hunt down the problems by working backwards and re-checking the most recent things I've done to the bike.
I have a 1990 Harley ultra trike and had the same problem with the dash, turn signals and stop lights also the gauges, tach. and speedo all going out then coming back on, They finally went out, after a check of all fuses, I discovered the starter relay was bad, once replaced everything worked ! By the way the bike would start and run without this relay, also the headlights and running lights worked. Hope this fixes your problem !!!
