Anyone have any experience with Rifle windshields, especially on a Road Glide? Good product and company? I'm looking to replace the stock shield to relieve the buffetting I'm getting and these looked interesting on the website.
As far as the stock shield goes, I think I've figured out why it causes a very annoying buffeting at any speed over 40mph. It's too thin and flimsy and vibrates like crazy. This vibration translates into a very irritating sharp buffeting sensation. I experimented by reaching forward with my left hand and grasping the shield. Presto, buffeting stopped. The dealer offered to trim my stock shield for free but I want something a little sturdier so - Rifle, Clearview?
Don't have one on my RG but do have one on my 05 HD Deuce. Best shield! Don't ask me how much $ I spent on other shields for the Deuce to find out. All others wer too short and narrow. Rifle has different sizs AND they come on/off super easy! Again, great shield.
Sorry I don't have a picture of it on my Duece. Only the small/thin HD one.........You can see it in my pictures.
Did a little more research and found out that "lucite" which is what Rifle shields are made of is actually acrylic and tends to be very brittle. Watched an interesting video comparing acrylic and polycarbonate shields when hit by flying objects and no way do I want acrylic.
That is a good question. The stock HD shield (and maybe their replacement shields?) are Lexan which is polycarbonate. The aftermarket ones I've looked at from Rifle, Clearview and Cee Baily's are acrylic but I just found out that Klock Werks shields are poly so I'll check them out.
Does anyone know of any major problems from those with these shields made of Lexan which is polycarbonate? I know a lot of people on here have Clearview and Cee Baily's and I have heard them speak very highly of them.
Just wondering. I know we don't like to think of bad things happening but I would rather have something hit my shield than to hit me directly.
