this is day 3 for me with the SG, so i'm new to it.
But i noticed last night after about an hour of riding, that the under side of the tank was heating up pretty badly. I know the motor gives off some heat, but is it safe for the tank to be heating up that much?
It is full of flammable liquid. [:-]
If I leave my bike outdoors, any breeze seems to cool the tank and motor just fine.
But in my garage, I use a small floor fan directing the cooling air across the jugs and that seems to work well. I've done this with every bike I've owned and stored inside...just don't like the heat cooking things. Maybe a waste of time but works for me.
Yep, it will heat the tank some. But it is far from being dangerous. Gas itselfisn't flamable, it's the vapors/fumes that are flamable, and even then you need an ignition source for flame to happen. So as long as the tank doesn't get hot enough to boil and turn the liquid into a vapor, and that vapor doesn't escape, your tank and garage will be safe. If it does get hot enough to boil, stand waaaay back and watch the cool B.L.E.V.E. (Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion )
