Default Dyno'd the 124 w/ TMAT today...

Took the bike in this morning and dyno'd the 124" motor. These were just base runs to determine if the Zippers TMAT was capable of tuning in on a high performance build via the auto tune module. I am happy to report there is some good news as the AFR line was constant andyou could not ask forbetter or flatter lines across the RPM range. With the exhaust sniffer connected from the DJ250I we ran a couple warm up pulls, then performed a couple 100% pulls in 4th and 5th gear. According to the DJ Software, the Air/Fuel lines started at 14.8 and dropped to 14 when at 100% TP@ 4000 RPM. That's a bit lean from what I was expecting but all good when you see how flat across the table these AFR lines and curves were. It did leave some horsepower and torqueon the table so the next step is to add some fuel to bring the tables down into the 13.2 - 13.5range. That should pick up another 10-12 points or so and that's the target for now. Not over shooting or over expecting anything here since this is as much about testing this product than boasting, and I feel it'simportant to gain some reliable dataso comparisons and bench tests can be measured against other builds or tuners.

Horsepower and Torque in 5th gear were 122.83/128.71 with SAE corrections. It should make around 130/140 with a bit of tuning which I amall good with. Elevation here is 3750' above sea level and the barometric pressure in Calgary normally puts the elevations factor at or near 5000' when you correct. It's tough making power at this elevation so I mayperform a few more pulls when the air/fuel istuned ina bit to see where it changes. If I feel there is still some more power to be had I might put the old ECM back in and would then have it tunedwith a SE Pro Tuner in my buds shop. All in all I am very impressed with the Thundermax for what it was intended to do and it has dialed in some awesome AFR tables although a little bit leaner than desired for a performance build...but then that's not what the auto tuner was created to do. They were designed to learn throttle positions and smooth out the fuel tables for decent power and good fuel mileage.

There is lots of tweaking that can be done to get more power out of this build and i'll start into that this week as Ienjoy working with this module and the Zippers software. The torque curve is powerfull and there is no dip at all when you nail the throttle. It climbs straight to 105 ft/lbs at 2500rpm then smooths out to 130 @ 4000rpm. Horespower climbs straight to 6000rpm and also has a very smooth curve as well. All in all very impressive considering no tuningor changes have been made since loading the base map (#405). Now to get the rest out of this with some tuning. No bull$hit here folks. Just some honest numbers with SAE corrections. More to come when I start tuning, but awesome info on what a Thundermax can do in a big inch build. Not bad at all when you consider the facts.

For those who'd rather slam the results or relish the power being low, I'd say bring your bike up here to this elevation and see what you can tune your bike to do. It's easier said than done to make real power up here, but again, there is more to be had on this build with an hour or so of tuning. I am also running less compression in this build at 10.7:1 which is a bit soft for this cam set, but I wanted to dial this bike in forlower octanefuel and can now run this thing anywhere. If I pick up another 10-12% with tuning, then I'm perfectly happy with the results. Should be easy. More later. (Here's thebase runchart)

Nice build and good results Gman, been following your progress, glad you are happy, now get to work squeezing those ponies and TQ pounds out of that build. How many miles have you logged with the current map?

About 1500 miles so far. It runs great, starts good, and pulls hard, but can now see that there's more to be had with some simple tuning.Pretty confident that I can find 10-12% with some tuning and maybe more. Proof will be in the pudding I guess, but I'm happy with whatever it makes. Some people get too hung up in the numbers and I offer this more assharing info with those who have Thundermax Tuners. They do have their place in todays bikes and will only get better as technology advances.

Right on Gman, the numbers look good already for having no tuning done to speak of. Kind of anxious to get mine on the dyno just to see where I'm at, haven't put too many miles on yet as I am still waiting on the HQ Pro Tuner. Hopefully I will get it on the dyno in a few weeks.

Runs break down as:

Run 1 - 6th Gear Front Cyl
Run 2 - 5th Gear Front Cyl
Run 3 - 4th Gear Front Cyl
Run 4 - 5th Gear Rear Cyl
Run 5 - 4th Gear Rear Cyl

Looks good GM, praticularly for the elevation and being just initial baseline pulls!

You are dead on with regard to the fantasy number game... Kudos to you for laying it out "like it is" with proper correction factoring!!!

I bet it's a FUN ride!
