Default Crossover Question

OK everybody here is a Dumb Question.
And I know that the Harley Sound is in the EAR of the beholder.
On stock headpipes with the crossover, the exhaust is 80/20.
With true duals, it changes to 50/50.
I have a stock 2005 Ultra running the stock head pipes and the old style/race only SE 64903-99 one piece mufflers.
The right mufflermakes a high pitch sound. (Kind of raspy and tinny.) (More exhaust going through it I guess.)
The left muffler has a deeper more Harley sound to it.
I am thinking about installing Vance and Hines True Dual Headpipes with these mufflers.
True Dual Headpipesshouldcalm the right side down. (Correct?)
I hope it wouldn't make the left side crappy as well.
How do the Vance and Hines Headpipes compare to the Rinehart Headpipes? (Fitment wise.)
What about the complete Rinehart True Dual system?
I have read that some have had fitment problems with them.
And only their slipons will fit due tothe bigger size headpipe.
With True Dual Headpipes only, itwould allow me the option to try different slipons.
I guess the only way to know if I like it, is to give True Duals a try. LOL
Anyone done this and regretted it?
I will probably have to get it remapped too.
What do you think about this?
Your help is appreciated.

Thanks,
magnoliarunner

I found the True Duals made my bike LOUDER. Sure the sound was "balanced" but it also was louder. If you keep the OEM pipes and just use a conversion kit, then yes, you can use different slip ons. However if you go with the Rineharts, the pipe diameter is different and you can only use their mufflers. Some folks have had fittmant issues with the Rineharts, like clearing the left side passenger floorboard and hitting the right side floorboard and brake lever.

Personally I have tried many TD systems, the Rineharts, Hooker, and now a conversion kit. And to be honest, with my mild build (96" engine with Andrews 26G cams) my butt dyno could not tell the difference. In fact, I am contemplating going back to OEM with the cross over just to quiet down the bike a bit. You may have to get remapped, each bike is different. You will have to ride it and see.

Good luck

Default RE: Crossover Question

If you are looking for the "deeper harley sound" you might want to try some 2" or 2.25" Rush Slip ons. Nice deep rumble. The 2.25's are perfect for me for an hour or so, but after 5-8 hours on a trip they are a bit much. The 2" that I had on before were just about right.

Another option is the Fuelmoto version of the Rush slip-ons. Should gain some torque out of em too. I am going to try them and will report back here in a few weeks if I noticed any seat of the pants difference, and what the sound difference is.

I have the V & H true duels and love the sound. I used my stock mufflers with the baffles knocked out for a while which was OK, now I got the Peacemakers and they are super, I can open them up when I want to and close it down if needed. I have a Thundermax which adjust to the different usages without any problems. But I love the true duels gives it the Ole Harley sound or as close as you can get with the EFI now-a-days.
