OK, I really didn't. But I did have mine powdercoated to match the paint. The powdercoating didn't help function any -- but it does look cool.
They do seriously make a difference.
...seriously.
I can't even force myself to like those chrome fork mounted air-deflectors though... No offense to those of you that have them...but everytime I see a bike with them I can't help thinking of a toaster my gramma used to have.
Just got a chrome one. Am I the only person who has a challenging time geting the screws threaded through the holes? Good godalmighty.....that little allen wrench aint doing the trick.
Profman,
Run hex head bolts thru those holes 1st, using plenty of oil as you run it in a little and back it out. Much easier using a boxed end wrenchon the bolts. Then the allen wrench bolts will go in easy.
I'm not sure how much it helped. I would like to test it again on and off, but it was such a pain I probably won't. I'll just leave it on. At worst, it is more chrome, which is always nice. Now, if I would have had that tap it would have gone in much easier. On the bright side, how many parts can you buy from H-D for only $20? So, it's worth a try to see if you like it.
I added the black fork spoiler, chrome fork wind deflectors and wider, taller windshield to my '07 Ultra. All three additions make it bearable to ride in low thirty degree weather if you are dressed for it. With the addition of a ski mask face/head cover and a flip up windshield on my full helmet, I can easily commute to and from work in colder weather now. I replace the windshield in the summer months and use a 3/4 helmet if I use any at all, but the other additions stay in place. The fork baffle, IMHO, is one of the best additions you can add. By itself it does cut out much air buffeting up around the tank and with the addition of the other mods, the bike is really comfortable. I think those who do not see a big difference are ones perhaps not running windshields. In that case, it would not do much good.
