I think your judgement is off.

I'll give Ya" All" some back round on me before I make
my post. I spent 5 years helping Metzeler design the
ME 880 tires as well as the ME 33 Laser which is now
called Lasertec. I road raced for Kawasaki for years and
spent alot of time helping different companys develope
other products other then tires as well.

Over the years I worked with Dunlop,Michelin,Pirelli,
Metzeler and some with Avon. I raced the ME 880
prototypes in 24 hour endurance races and rode with
them on my street bikes for years before Metzeler
ever released them. I ride on ME 880's all the time on
all my motorcycles and have close to 2 million street
riding miles on motorcycles in over 40 years of riding.
I also have worked in many shops and have my own
shop right now.

The #1 thing I would like to point out about motorcycle
riders as a whole is: They DO NOT CHECK and adjust
their tires before "EVERY" ride. I see customers bring
their motorcycles in all the time with 20PSI or even
zero air presure (and they ride them in like this)
This is not new to motorcycling I've seen this since
1961 in every shop I've been in and all my buddies
that work in bike shops see it as well"

That being said 99% of all motorcycle tire failures are
from the customer running them low on air!

That tire looks to me like it was run low and hit a bad
very bad pot hole or something sharp edged!

Most people put the motorcycle manufactures
recommended air pressure in the their tire instead
of the tire manufactures recommended air pressure.

I would bet that Metzeler had 38PSI in it which is
Harleys recommendation and is 12PSI lower then
Metzeler says to have in it! This my friends spells
BIG trouble for the rider (owner)

50PSI is what you are suppose to have in the rear
ME 880...

I would like to pass on some info. I got from every
tire engineer I ever worked with" they all said that
they would NEVER run white wall tires on a motorcycle
due to they are made in three seperate layers and then
vulcanized like recaps are. I have lived by these wise
words ever since and never ride on white wall tires
on my motorcycles. White walls are not unsafe, just
less safe then black walls!

I'm glad no one was hurt on this motorcycle, but I
would bet it was owner self inflicted...

Ya" All" go check your tires and set your air pressures
now Ya" Hear"

Beemervet sounds like a person with the type of experience to know a little something on the subject.

In your post spec your rear tire but not the front. What is mounted on the front? Are you mixing tires?

I appreciate everyone's input -- I will adjust the air in the rear tire first -- then go from there

I'm sorry, but I don't think our bikes were really built to do 90+
You're joking, right?

No, I'm not joking.
Then either
1. You're crazy.
2. the MoCo doesn't know how to build a bike. If the 1977 Oldsmobile could do 100, then a brand new 1500+cc motorcycle certainly should be able to.
3. The big twins aren't all they've cracked up to be - my Sportster is still pulling hard at 105 and stable as a rock... girls bike eh?

Crack it and ride, never know when you'll need the speed (and yes, I've had valid reasons for it in the past).

T.W.R. missing link stabilizer will cure this issue. For me it was the best upgrade I've made to my bike. Check out the group buy thread. You may get one at a discount.

Obviously these bikes were not designed to go 90+on a consistent basis, can they sure they can, there's enough hp and tq there. Yes you have a girls bike..........Sportster...........Is that even a Motorcycle??????????

Or is that the Mo Co's way of saying for all you who can't afford a real MC here ya go?

I rode 105mph on my Street Glide for an hour. I know it was a little crazy but rode with the guys and was way late for work, had to fly. It rode so smooth. Check your bags and make sure they are balanced. These engines are about 1600cc's. They can go faster than that.

I'll bite. What are your "valid reasons" for doing 90+ mph?

Unless you have the screamin sheets, why on earth would you need to ride that fast?
