Default Mapping

I am proud to say my first HD is on its way from the factory. I am getting conflicting stories about exhaust mapping with a '08 Street Glide, that I am hoping some of you may understand more than me.

I ordered the S.E. High-Flow Air, andtold by my local dealer that for the '08's you cant "flash" the ECM with a generic map forRinehart slip ons. Therefore I would need the S.E. Race Tuner -no option to do differently. Apparently this could be done in years prior, but not for the '08 models.

Is that consistent with what you guys know or have been told?

tks....
Peter

Yes, I was told the same thing from the dealership. So, to save some $$$, I ordered RH True Duals from Eastern Performance. Saved about $250.I had planned to have the dealership put them on along with the SE Race Tuner. When I told Eastern Performance what I was doing, they told me I could put on a Power Commander III (the mapping device) and a high flow airfilter. I did this and saved about a $1000. Bike runs like a top. I put everything on myself. Just followed instructions took mytime.

Harley has gotten away from flashing. It was a very generic change to the ecm that really didn't allow for any adjusting other than the numbers it puts in. The SERT is adjustable (if you know what you are doing or let someone who does make them). Some of the other products out there also are adjustable but vary in how they work with the ecm.

Another option to consider.

http://www.harley-davidson-forum.net/index.php Check out Latus. They sell MAPS.

You canbuy "L" version of SERT. http://www.hdstore.com/ should have them in stock.
You can download the "N" SERT software on line. Plenty of links to it on the forum.
Buy cables.
Download the MAP you just purchased.

I have been thinking of doing the same thing as you, in otherwords installing Rh True Duals, High Flow Air Filter and the Power Commander III on my '08 Road King Classic. The price the dealer is quoting me is over $1,400 not counting labor. I think that is high. Could you tell me what it cost you?

My cost was $765 for pipes and$401 for Air filter and Power Command (Also know as PCIII). Dealer quoted me $2205 if they supplied everything. If I supplied my own pipes, they wanted $1100 and they would supply the SERT and the high flow filter and labor.
