If I had the guts to tell you people what I did this weekend, you all would agree with me. Damn it was sick!

You people have no idea how happy I am to have so much company in having this kind of thing happening. I thought I was the only loser. Whew, that's a relief.

I subscribe to both the tipping of the bike and the mirror tricks. You'd be surprised what gravity or a view from a different angle can do for you.

Now for further such endeavors I have these recommendations:

#1 - Always but a blanket or sheet under the bike with enough folds or wrinkles in it to prevent any loose items from rolling away.

#2 - With masking tape and an old towel drape off the area directly under where you are working to act as a funnel so that anything that drops, ends up rolling/sliding straight down to the sheet covered floor and not into any nooks and crannys on the bike.

#3 - Say to yourself: "It has to be here someplace and I will find it". Repeat as necessary.

My $.02. Bill to follow.

ask your wife to look for you. women are great at finding lost items. how many times have i lost my keys, my wallet, my phone, etc etc etc. only to get them found by the wife. its a well known fact that men just cant find things. i think that we give up just too easily and let defeat wash over usd
This has been my experience. Unless it has a smell, we have a hard time finding it.

Above all, don't ride the bike , there's a good possibility it's resting on the belt and will get cranked around the pully and damage the belt. That's where they do end up at times. Start the bike up without rolling it andthey sometimes fall out from the vibration. You can also used compressed air sometimes to blow it out of hiding. This has worked for me a few times. Do try to find it and don't overlook on top of the cross brace for the frame.

well after a total of almost 4 hours, i never found it! i even took off some of the covers, put it up on the lift ect. i rolled the bike around, and even started it and let it run for a while, it never showed up! i made sure it was not anywhere near the belt, and siad the hell with it! i'll probably find it under the workbench or something next week who knows, but it sure was frustrating as hell!

More than once I have returned to the scene of the crime to find the missing item laying on the floor in plain sight. If I listen real close I can hear the gremlins giggling.
